antidotes

Yesterday and today I attened talks by Alan Kay and David Smith respectively on Squeak Etoys and Croquet. I've played with them before (unfortunately not very long) but it was something else entirely to see them demoed by their inventors. Impractical as they may be but they point to a deep potential of computer as media. In other words they are great antidotes against bad languages, meglomaniacal frameworks, delusional middleware, insecure OS, unreliable kernels, demented methodologies, ugly UI, ignorant practioners and pundits.

After Croquet talk Larry Wall was to give a talk on Perl 6 in the same room, but I had to leave. It was a most interesting juxtaposition (or not :-) to say the least.
